I’m excited to announce the launch of 1st Door Software’s new website, it can be found at 1stDoor.com. This was one of the funnest sites I’ve had the pleasure of building, much of the pleasure came from my exploration and convergence of HTML5, CSS3 & jQuery. All of these tools working together made for an easy development process and some clean interactivity. Unfortunately due to some confidentiality issues we weren’t able to launch the site with all of the applications that 1st Door Software had developed, but more will be added soon.

John Myers from 1st Door Software approached me in February about redesigning his website and creating a new logo for his business. John develops very high quality applications for iOS so he needs to represent that quality with his first impression, be it the website or a business card. Today, a website has depth and an unlimited canvas to tell a story, but a business card as a medium truly limits designers in many ways. A high quality business card goes a long way when creating an initial impression. Business card production can be done through internet vendors in a very inexpensive way but for 1st Door Software it was important that we created a unique and high quality card that represented their brand and in this case letterpress printing was the best process for the job.

Denver based print shop, Foils & Dies have been letterpress printing for over 20 years and after seeing just a few of the business cards they had printed in the past I knew they were the perfect company for the job. The letterpress typically uses magnesium or copper dies that a inked and smashed on top the paper to create a mild indentation that is a reverse of the die. Letterpress as trade is slowly fading away so I was very excited to have the opportunity to use the process, here are a few shots of the print shop and the final results.

Growing up in the sticks of Vermont, I always took it’s lush green scenery for granted and now that I’ve been living in the arid lands of Colorado I want nothing more than the thick green vegetation found back east.

Here are a few shots I took while back east.

We recently took on the site redesign job for the Australian Resource Conference which will be host in Denver next year. The conference has been staged for the sole purpose of linking US based investors with Australian businesses. With that in mind we knew the site needed an edge but also needed some corporate undertones. The client needed the ability to make edits on there own once the site was launched and also have the ability to feed dynamic content such as Twitter posts. Based on those requirements we recommended WordPress as it’s built in CMS is easy to use and highly customizable. Below are a few high fidelity mock ups.

While back in New England visiting my family this week my sister told me a story about one of her co-workers and her son. Typically I wouldn’t share something like this but it left me on the ground laughing after hearing it.

So it was a typical spring day in Bethlehem, New Hampshire and a mother is driving to the local ball fields to pick up her daughter from softball practice. The mother’s 8 year old son is at home alone as she had expected to be gone for no more than an hour. Before she is able to park the car she receives a call from her son, he’s hysterical.

“Mom, you need to come home now, I found a goblin and I locked it in the closet!”

Like most mothers, she assumes the young boy is playing and there couldn’t really be anything in the closet.

So she replies “Ok, i’m picking up your sister now, i’ll be home soon.”

An hour later she arrives home and her son takes her to the closet which has a chair wedged under the handle as to keep to goblin from escaping.

Still under the assumption that she will open the door to find an empty closet except for few hanging coats, she opens the door.

In the closet staring up at her she finds

…………..a little person, a midget census workers, that the boy locked in the closet out of fear.

Note to all little people who have door to door occupations, beware of all 8 year old boys who are home alone.

Goblins In The Closet

Beware of the goblins in your closet

Disclaimer: This is real, no joke.
